Skills Training & Job Board

Math | Science | Back to Skills Training & Job Board

Building a science foundation has three benefits:

  • Increases your ability to learn technology.
  • Increases your ability to assess risk.
  • Increases your problem solving capabilities.

(Remember – businesses pay people to solve problems and to avoid problems.)

Technology changes the way people work. Computers (including hand-held devices) are collecting, analyzing, reporting and combining information. However to a computer this information is simply data. People convert data into solutions. Science is linked to technology. A workforce, highly-skilled in science, is important to the economic well-being of countries because:
  • Basic science competencies are important in the absorption of new technologies.
  • High-level science competencies are critical for the creation of new technologies and innovation.
Science explains how things work and allows you to predict the most likely outcomes of events. Being able to quickly assess a situation and understand the mostly logical outcomes, allows you to select actions that produce positive events, while avoiding actions that produce negative results. Therefore, having a foundation in all science areas (biology, chemistry and physics) is strongly recommended.

Science Facts

Similar to math, science trains the mind to solve problems and builds the “soft skills” that employers are looking for:

  • An understanding of the scientific process
  • Attention to detail
  • Curiosity about how things work
  • Logical thinking processes
