The idea behind
Dream !t Do !t® is simple:
Manufacturing is a critical part of American prosperity and security. It determines the economic strength in an area. For every $1.00 a manufacturer generates, an additional $1.37 worth of economic activity is generated in related products and services, which is more than any other industry sector. Wealth flows into communities where advanced manufacturers congregate.
Will County’s Center for Economic Development (CED) recognized how improving the awareness of quality employment, training requirements and careers would benefit everyone in our county and joined a national effort to prepare young people for technology oriented careers in manufacturing and distribution. Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA) continually invests in math and science education to expand the quality of the workforce. In fact, TRMA created the Three River Education Partnership (TREP) to bridge business and education to better prepare the Will and Grundy County students for the workplace. Through TREP, business and education leaders work together; TREP’s mission is, “To promote partnerships between business and education to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce.” The Will County area not only has great opportunities for engineers, scientists and managerial careers, but also an increasing demand for the “gold collar” career opportunities, a.k.a. technical skilled careers.
Success depends on parents, teachers, employers and our community leaders working together to educate young people that there are many routes to success with a technical career path and science, technology, engineering and math basic (STEM) skills. Skilled apprentice programs, certification programs, technical associate’s degrees, and STEM bachelor degrees provide a continuum of high paying options and overlapping pathways. With everyone’s commitment, we can have a positive impact on the future of our youth, and improve the quality of our workforce for a stronger economy.
